DESCRIPTION
A collection of six antique botanical prints after Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759–1840), depicting studies of amaryllis, iris, narcissus and roses. Each print bears its respective Latin and French botanical titles, together with printed artist and engraver credits, including ‘P. J. Redouté pinxᵗ.’
The botanical compositions are printed and believed to have been finished by hand with delicate watercolour, lending subtle variation and softness to the colour of each piece. Presented as a collection in matching ebonised wood frames with fine gilt detailing.
Naturally faded pigments, foxing and tonal variation to the paper lend the collection a wonderfully timeworn quality, consistent with its age.
Sold as a complete set of six.
